Velvet and Suede

Happy Friday the 13th y'all!!!
First off, I'm glad that you seemed to enjoy my little DIY post, I will definitely do some more of those if its something you enjoy :)
Today we have Julep Minka, what they describe as an oxblood suede. I see it more as a rusty colour, but julep did not have the best luck with describing the colours in this collection. Ah well. This lasted a decent amount of time. Suedes dry crazy fast, but that also means they are more prone to chipping, unfortunately. It lasted 2 days chip free, but got some wear by the 3rd, when I took it off.
I adore the suede look still, and I think it's perfect for fall. Not to mention how great a nice 2 coater that dries before your done both hands. Totally great when your in a rush.
Plus, it totally went with the cupcakes we got. Mmm, I love me some red velvet cupcakes. Thanks mom!!!

Madness!

I think school is killing me. I mean, it's only 6 more days of it, but it the past little bit that's the hardest. Teachers just love to pile on the crazy homework. Who needs slope anyways?!?! X-y intercept my ass...
Anyways, just a quick post for today. My nails have been going vast amounts of time without polish, hopefully 2+ months of Vacay will remedy that.
Here's China Glaze's Mosiac Madness. 2 coats over Julep Debra. Honestly, I found this collection a little blah. I just don't think anyone really needs 6 of the exact same polish in different colours. A smaller collection or a little bit more uniqueness would have been much appreciated. But it was clearance, so ah well.
Formula was average, a bit thick, but I think that somewhat helped with glitter application.
Anyways, nothing fancy, but a gorgeous polish none the less.
See everybody later! Peace out homedogs!

Late Easter

Hey guys! Hope you had a good laugh with my April Fools Joke. It wasn't the best but I thought it was pretty funny :D Just a joke though, to anyone who thought otherwise!
Anyways, it's a little late, but here's my Easter mani. I know you guys have been interested in more nail art, and I figured -while I'll still mainly be swatches and I'm never gonna be a crazy nail art person- I'd show you a little something here and there :D
I decided to do a simple pastel rainbow gradient manicure. There are a bazillion tutorials out there, so I won't right one out , but if your interested I'll post a couple links to good ones.
For this mani I used Nails Inc Nottingham Carnival, Julep Courtney, Joe Fresh Wave and Julep Renee, in that order. I used a plain white creme polish as a base for opacity.
As a first attempt, this was pretty simple. It didn't take much longer than a normal mani and the design makes it super easy to mess up, but still have it turn out great :) this looks a bit worn, I only got a chance to take pics 3-4 days after! Sorry!
Here it is!

Brit Sure Is Matte

Hello everyone! School's starting back up tomorrow, and exams will be soon, so I may be a little under the radar for a little bit. Trust me, I am dreading it more than you are, :P
Here's the first polish I wore from my collective haul post that I posted a couple days ago- Julep Brit. It was part of their much anticipated Suedes collection, that took way to love for all us mavens liking :) Brit is the silver suede of the collection, and a pretty one at that.
Anyways, suedes and other mattes chip easily by nature, so this isn't a polish that your can wear for days, the same is true for any polish with a matte finish, they just don't bond to the nail very well. There are a couple tricks to prolong your mani though, I like to do a base coat sandwich (base coat, 1 coat of polish, another coat of base, and a final coat of polish). I also make sure it's a strong adhesion base coat. Just a warning though, base coats can slightly affect the polish finish and make application a little trickier, but to me, the pros outweigh the cons.
Also, become a maven for a penny here: http://www.julep.com/rewardsref/index/refer/id/26940/
Anyways, onto pictures. Artificial lighting, two coat sandwich method, no topcoat.

Julep October Boxes

Hey guys, I just wanted to say I'm sorry I haven't been doing more. Unfortunately, I'm really busy with school right now. I am pushing myself to post at least 3 times every two weeks, so hopefully that will start happening and I can increase the goal a little. I have made some extra posts though, just for something to fall back to if I don't have time or material.

Anyways, Julep introduced us to their October lineup today. What do I think of it. Well, I'm starting to become a little disheartened with Julep. As much as I love the idea, the execution is falling a little flat. And as much as I'd love to tell you that their boxes are always amazing, I can't do that without lying... which is something I don't want to do, because that goes against the very idea of blogging, in my mind.

So what did they do this month?
Crackles.

No, I'm not joking... but it gets better. We're not talking about glitter crackles or leather-effect crackles, we're talking about a white, a black, a silver and an orange. I don't know about you but I think everyone that ever liked crackles already has a black, white AND silver crackle, I know I do. And I'm not really into the orange either. There is nothing wrong about still liking crackles, but I feel like you can get so many on clearance for really low prices. Right now China Glaze crackles are only a 1.50 each at Sally Beauty Supply, actually. The other box without crackles is Classic With A Twist, but it has a sheer pink and a brown frost. |I don't like to swear, but seriously, WTF?!?! Two pre-existing colours that don't go together at all? What are you supposed to do with that? A french mani with dirty brown tips? I have no idea. And I don't care about the quick-dry stuff anyways, I feel like it's really easy to find quick dry drops and it's something that I would end up not touching. Besides, aren't Juleps polishes supposed to be quick-dry already?
The only box I like is the Maven's Choice, I actually almost-love the cremes, with the exception of Keira (the burgundy), that's a little eerrr.... for me. It makes me happy though that Julep responded so quickly to everyones dismay about the crackles, though. I have to think about it still, I don't know if those shades are really worth $20 to me. How do you guys feel? Any thoughts on what I should do?

Anyways here are the boxes:

Julep August Box- Colours Review

Okay, here's my opinion on the August Julep Maven Boxes, as well as the pictures of each box, but first off is the non-polish extra, nail polish remover:

My first thought? How tiny is that! Honestly, I buy my cheap-but works stuff, and am quite happy with it. I know some people can't imagine looking at anything other that Zoya Remove Plus, but honestly, if it works, and doesn't kill my poor little wallet, I'm fine with it. If the container was bigger, I probably would have loved to try it, but that's way not big enough for the price tag.

The It Girl Box

Melanie: Pastel indigo metallic chrome
Sienna: Sophisticated gold metallic
Harley: Liquid silver metallic chrome

I really love Melanie, I thinks she's a gorgeous colour that I don't have anything like. However, Sienna is an old colour, that a lot of Julep fans already have, and that I have a dupe for. Harley is meh, silver chrome, not really worth that much to me. There's also a lot of speculation that is a re release for Leighton... Overall, I like this box, I really do. Just not for $20.

Boho Glam

Isla: Soft milky-white metallic
Piper: Mint-teal metallic chrome

Okay, now look at these pictures, the nails are streaky and have bald spots. Come on Julep, your a nail parlour, you should know that people like opaque, streak and patch free nails. Other than that, I think the colours are gorgeous, Isla looks really pretty, and I will definitely look for something like her. Piper is also something I want to get a dupe of. However, I don't just want to get this box because A. Julep polishes are small, and I don't want to waste a bottle on one Mani that isn't streaky or patchy.
B. I wouldn't pay $20 for them and the polish remover, which brings me to
C. I don't want their polish remover.

American Beauty

Dakota: Rose-gold metallic chrome
Stefani: Gold-flecked grey metallic

This is like all the other boxes, it's nice. Stefani is an old colour, and has been in a couple mystery boxes already. Dakota is nice, I don't know what else to say. It's a pretty colour, but for the money, I'd rather get Essie's new metallic that's similar to this. All-in-all it's a nice box.

Classic With A Twist

Alfre: Royal metropolitan purple metallic
Felicity: Yellow-gold metallic chrome

Not a big fan of these, and Alfre is also a preexisting colour. I doubt Felicity would look remotely okay with my skin tone, but one someone else it might look good. Nothing else to say about these.

Bombshell

Kim: Gunmetal grey metallic
Harley: Liquid silver metallic chrome

Kim's preexisting and I've already talked about Harley, enough said.

This whole collection is pretty meh to me. I think it's good for polish newbies, and people who are looking for some nice chromes, but I'd honestly rather get Essie's. Especially after last month's ah-maz-ing box, this one is a little lacking. Here's to September's box being better.

Overall Verdict- Skipping. I'll spend my money on something I like a little more and hope for something better in September's box.

July Julep Boxes

Better late than never, right? The end of school is killing me,and I feel drained when I come home, but there's only one week left. Anyways, here are the Julep Maven July Boxes. I like these way more than June, and May's too. The glitter's look freakin' fantastic, especially the one in the It Girl Box. You also get a free polish celebrating either Canada Day or the Fourth Of July. The only issue I have with this is I way prefer America The Beautiful, which I think they did way better. And it has star glitter. Oh, I forgot, these also have a lip vernis that is colour-coordinated to a polish. I love that look but when you see the swatches of the lip color, they're really sheer. So, in reality, your lips and nails won't be matchy -matchy. But I have to say, I'm glad we're aware of that before hand, just so we won't be expecting something just like the Butter London colours with the matching lippies. Also, the names aren't coordinating, which is a little weird. Just to let you know, this is obviously picture-heavy.

And here is the breakdown of what's in each box:

EDIT: They changed the box shot's to the new month's boxes/

And I thought I'd include the swatches, since the above pictures don't do those glitter polishes any justice:

These two are O Canada and America The Beautiful. Which one you get depends on where you live, but you can get them as add-ons. The rest are in the same order as the box shots.

And here are the lippies. I didn't know if I'd include them since this mouth grosses me out for some reason (am I the only one?), but I figured I'd show you how sheer these really are:

If you want to sign up for Julep Maven, please use my refferal code, because if I get a free month I will do a giveaway, so one of you can win a free Maven box.

Julep June Boxes

Julep has released their June Maven Box products. Julep has a great beauty subscription program- think Glossybox, Birch Box and The Beauty Test Tube- where you can get three polishes or two polishes and a manicure/pedicure related item for only 19.99. Juleps polish retails for 14.99 on their website, as well as Sephora; their other stuff is usually more expensive. Please beware that this post is picture heavy. Anyways; here are this months products:

And here are the boxes, in case your wondering what each one. You can choose to add up to two add-ons for 4.99- or 9.99 for the cream. To the best of my knowledge, you can also get two or more boxes if that's up your alley.

I love alot of these, but wish you could construct your own box with three items of your choosing; or even could swap out one thing for another. I really like the colors Classic With A Twist, or Boho Glam, but I have very sensitive skin and since I can't try it, I wouldn't want to buy it for fear of getting welts or hives. The only two colors I don't like are both in the It Girl box, and they look similar to ones I have already got (for much cheaper).

Anways, you can also get your first month for 1 cent with free shipping here. This box will be different than the ones pictured above, but for 1 cent? I'd give whatever I'd get a try. Julep has nice nail polish, and they're 15 bucks a pop at Sephora.
